A little of the backstory

We’ve been here for over twenty years, and during that time we’ve:

  • Planted 150,000 native forest trees
  • Founded the first program of environmental education in the region
  • Created the first web-based GIS
  • Created thousands of acres of protected areas
  • Hosted 2000 students, researchers and volunteers from 71 countries
  • Impacted the lives of thousands of people in our region: the Serra do Brigadeiro mountains
  • Tallied 500,000 volunteer hours (students, researchers and pro bono staff) to fulfill our mission of Saving Forests and Changing Lives.

We’re not going to let covid stop us now!

20 years of transformation

When his water supply failed, Adão asked us for seedlings to plant on the steep slopes above his spring. Today he has more water than ever.
After spending a summer with us, Mukhaye returned to her native Kenya to help raise productivity on smallholder farms
After joining our Junior Scientists program, Rafael fell in love with biology and never missed a class. He got a scholarship to university and graduates soon.

21 YEARS DOING OUR PART

CHANGING LIVES AND SAVING FORESTS

At Iracambi we believe in changing with the times. Which is why we recently elected a new board to help us hit the ground running as we enter our third decade!

Dear Friends

Thank you for visiting!

Here, at the Iracambi Conservation and Research Center in Brazil’s Atlantic Rainforest we’re celebrating 21 years Saving Forests and Changing Lives.

Maybe you’re one of the two thousand students and researchers who have come to Iracambi to help make the world a better place. Maybe you’d really like to join us when you can. Maybe you love forests and want to protect them.

Whoever you are and wherever you live –

                                                We need your help now!

Over the past few months, along with everyone else, we’ve been hard hit by the coronavirus. We’ve had to close the Center and adapt our educational and forestry programs to the new normal. Which means that we rely now, more than ever, on individual donations to keep Iracambi alive.

Meanwhile, with all eyes on the pandemic, government policies to weaken environmental protection are resulting in continued forest destruction.

We are determined to do everything we can to protect the forest, and, to do that,  we need your help!

Our annual goal is to raise USD$80,000 to keep 100% of Iracambi’s activities going, and do everything we can to save the forest. We need to cover essential expenses:  salaries, administration, maintenance, caring for our baby trees and delivering our education programs to local schools in order to equip the next generation of environmental leaders to protect the forest.

Please donate what you can and share our link on your social media.

                                                         Thank you!
